Exciting Things Afoot

Well, June has come and gone but not without incident. Most of you will have noticed it got a wee bit warm there for a spell. Now, most of you who know me at all will know that I am a sun worshiper but I have to say I stayed out of it for pretty much the whole time.
My Studio is cool, which is great in the summer but not so great in the winter. I used that as an excuse to have a rehang as there were some lovely gaps on the wall from my little open studio event. Obviously Finn helps with everything and is never ever in the way or tripping me up!
Exciting Things
I had a couple of enquiries about prints from my new work. I’ve been a bit put off prints to be honest as I only do limited edition giclee ones and to get archival quality prints you have to start with really high quality photographs, all of this costs.
Despite phone cameras being stonkingly good at lots of things they are not good enough to print large-scale archival quality prints. When you tot up photography and printing costs then a board and cello bag to put each print in, the cost can get out of control very easily. If you only sell one print you’ve lost a lot of money, unless you sell it for the same price as the original!
Anyway, I managed to run in a couple of other fab things at the the same time with a trip to Birmingham to my fabulous photographer, shout out to Owen De Visser, dropped in to my fave studio/gallery •nook• to see Gosia and Darren and their amazing exhibition ‘Flora’. Then on to Seventh Circle Gallery to a ‘meet the artists event’ of two of my best art buddies as part of their amazing exhibition ‘Inner Worlds’. A fabulous weekend all round.
The up shot of this is Lux Gallery Birmingham want to represent me having seen my latest works whilst being photographed, so five of my pieces are now on their gallery website.
In other news, I have invited another local artist (Instagram - @redbeki) to share my studio space for a mini open studio event on 1st and 2nd August. Beki works in oils and her work explores themes of nature and still life in a realistic style, which makes a lovely contrast to my own more abstract work.
